Tourist information about Vladivostok
Vladivostok is the largest city in the Russian Far East, the population of the city is over 600 000. The city is located in the extreme south of the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula. About 50 islands of the Peter the Great Bay lie nearby, the biggest one is the Russky Island, which is connected with a unique cable-braced bridge to the mainland territory. The city stretches over 30 km from south to north, washed by waters of the Amursky and Ussuriysky bays as parts of the Peter the Great Bay of the Sea of Japan.

Vladivostok is the largest scientific and educational center of the Far East region, including the Far Eastern Federal University, Far Eastern Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences with numerous research institutes. The Society for Study of the Amur Region (OIAK), the oldest scientific organization in the Russian Far East, operates now as Primorye Regional Department of the Russian Geographical Society.

Vladivostok is a major cultural center of the Russian Far East in the Asian-Pacific Region. There is Vladimir K. Arseniev Museum of Far East History - the first far-eastern regional museum. The Federal Museum-Reserve "Vladivostok Fortress" has been opened recently; it offers visitors unique excursions to historical fortifications, which were unknown for citizens and tourists for about a century. Primorsky Aquarium on the Russky Island, a part of the National Scientific Center of Marine Biology (NSCMB FEB RAS) is the first Aquarium in Russia included into the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to Russian tourists, the Aquarium on the Russky Island is now among the ten top most interesting attractions of Russia. The city Vladivostok has seven theatres, including the Primorsky Stage of the famous Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre (St.Petersburg). There are a popular Russian circus and many modern cinemas in the city.

The city center is a real architectural pearl. The main Svetlanskaya Street presents an attractive row of houses; many of them were built by foreign businessmen in the second half of the 19th century. Top tourist attractions of the city are also the Golden Bridge across the Golden Horn Bay and the Russky Bridge across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, the funicular, the new-Gothic building of the Lutheran church, and the famous Vladivostok Railway station (the terminal station of the Trans-Siberian Railway).

Excursion program of the Conference
The Organizing Committee offers to the participants of the Conference bus tours around the city, sea sightseeing trips, a unique excursion to the Vladivostok Fortress Museum-Reserve, visits to the city museums and theatres. The Conference participants have the opportunity to visit the Primorsky Aquarium free of charge, to watch a performance in the dolphinarium, inspect the Aquarium technical areas and life support systems (“the backstage tour”).
1) Unique Excursion to «Vladivostok Fortress».
History of the Fortress: the legendary Vladivostok Fortress was an advanced and very powerful fortification in the time when it was built in the early 20th century. It played an important role in security of the eastern borders, first of the Russian Empire, and then of the Soviet Union. More than a hundred objects of the Vladivostok fortress are scattered along the picturesque hills and coasts of the Muravyov-Amursky Peninsula and the Russky Island. The fortress prevented the intervention of the Russian Far East without firing a shot. You will have the opportunity to compare Pospelov Fort, built before the Russo-Japanese war (1904-05), and Fort Nr.1, built with considerations of the experience of this war and the Russian loss of Port Arthur. You will learn about the little-known pages of Russian history and see the defensive structures that until recently were secret objects of the country as the Navy base. Views of the beautiful seashores and islands are an additional bonus of this tour.

2) Boat tour «Bridges of Vladivostok».
Description: Real attractions of the city are cable-stayed bridges the «Golden Bridge» across the Golden Horn Bay and «Russky Bridge» across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait. You will be offered a boat trip and the fascinating story about the history of 160-year –old Vladivostok.

3) Boat tour «Night city lights».
Description: Excursion to the Golden Horn Bay and the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, with amazing sea and urban landscapes in the evening. You will have an opportunity to look into the historical past of the city, to see from the sea the illuminated facade of the city, and to admire the bright colors of the sunset in the sea.

4) Bus City Tour «Night Vladivostok».
Description: Evening tour over the most interesting, beautiful and famous places of Vladivostok. You can also buy optionally tickets for an opera or ballet performance on the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theater. The Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre is one of the most modern theatres in Russia and in the Asia-Pacific region. Located on a picturesque hill overlooking the Sea of Japan, the original building of the theatre with its panoramic glass facade has become one of the brightest tourist attractions in Primorye.
A gambling zone was opened in Primorsky Krai in 2015 – one of the four officially established gambling zones in Russia. First, the casino «Tigre de Crystal» and the casino «Shambala» (opened in 2020) are located 50 km from Vladivostok and 15 km from the airport Knevichi. The gambling zone is developing; the planned attendance is up to 10 million guests per year.
