Ahnfeltiopsis flabelliformis

Thallus erect, fan-shaped in outline, tough, cartilaginous, bushy (in tufts), 5-7(-10) cm high, dark red with lighter-colored apices. Branching regularly or irregularly repeatedly dichotomous. Branches cylindrical or subcylindrical below (0.4-0.5 mm diam.), markedly flattened above (1-2 mm broad) with furcated apices. Apex obtuse or pointed, sometimes slightly dilated. Holdfast small, disc-shaped, giving rises to numerous erect axes. Cystocarps 0.8-1.0 mm diam., commonly in the upper portions of branches. Intertidal, on hard substrate, subtidal on stones and rocks, hydrotechnical structures, in open, semi-sheltered and sheltered areas.

Temperate to tropical waters of Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Common in the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region: China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Vietnam, Russia.
