Thallus aggregate, prostrate and partially erect, 1-3 cm high, translucent, bright-green to deep dark-green, composed of branched filaments of macroscopic cells. Cells firm, not densely packed, saccate (spherical, cylindrical, oblongato-clavate, pyriform), arcuate, 3-7 mm diam., 5-20 mm long. Branching irregular, from all sides of parent cell. Attachment by minute branched rhizoids issuing from small basal cells. Growing epiphytically, in crevices, underneath of corals, on hard substrate in the upper subtidal to 15 m depth of semi-protected shores. Plants tightly adherent to paper when dried.
