 In connection with termination of the Memorandum on cooperation between A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology, (NSCMB FEB RAS) and the South China Sea Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (SCSIO CAS), appointment of the new Director of the Center, and on invitation of the SCSIO CAS management, delegation of the NSCMB FEB RAS on the 20th – 23rd of October visited SCSIO in Guangzhou (China, Guangdong Province). The delegation included: the Scientific Supervisor of the Center (President), Academician of RAS Andrey Vladimirovich Adrianov; Director of the Center, Corr. Member of RAS Igor Yuryevich Dolmatov; Deputy Director for Science, PhD. Tatyana Yuryevna Orlova; and Deputy Director for International Cooperation, PhD. Konstantin Anatolyevich Lutaenko.

On 17th – 19th of October the Institute of Oceanology CAS has conducted the China-Russia Bilateral Workshop “Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystems in a Changing Ocean: toward Sustainable Development Goals”, where the ceremonial signing of Memorandum on establishment Laboratory was held. There were two Directors’ signatures Wang Fan and Igor Yu. Dolmatov, and also heads of the future Laboratory: Prof. Sun Xiaoxia and Deputy Director for International Cooperation of the Center Dr. Konstantin A. Lutaenko.

Priority goals include as follows:

  • Joint scientific surveys in the wide range of the marine biology and ecology problems;
  • Mutual exchanging by our knowledge, experience and modern research methods;
  • Obtaining new scientific knowledge for the decision making for an effective marine ecosystems management;
  • The promotion of the issue to attract the attention of the governmental and intergovernmental organizations to the hot problems of the marine ecosystems changing under the environmental fluctuations both at the local and global scales.

The scientific research activity between Institute of Oceanology Chinese Academy of Sciences (IO CAS) and A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (NSCMB FEB RAS) is regulated with Memorandum between centers, all bilateral workshops are conducted with an Agreement of cooperation.


On the 17th -19th of October 2023 Qingdao (China) welcomed a long-awaited conference - the sixth China-Russia Bilateral Workshop, which was organized between the Institute of Oceanology Chinese Academy of Sciences (IO CAS) and the A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (NSCMB FEB RAS). The long-awaited conference of the two major Institutes for studying ocean biology was interrupted by pandemic (Covid-19) and administrative instability during the last few years. During this time the Corr. Member of RAS Igor Yu. Dolmatov was elected Director of NSCMB FEB RAS after approval of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Igor Yu. Dolmatov set a goal before the International Department to bring the cooperation to a new level and to achieve significant breakthrough in cooperation with scientific and educational institutions of China. The previous joint workshop between the IO CAS and the NSCMB FEB RAS was held in 2019 (the first one was in 2007, all workshops are conducted according to the Cooperation Agreement).

On the 15th of September, the NSCMB FEB RAS held a working online-meeting with Sanya Institute of Deep-Sea Science and Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences (SIDSSE CAS) on the topic "Joint cruise and mutual cooperation".

On the 23rd of August, the joint online-conference with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Kolkata (IISER-Kolkata) and Satyabama Institute of Science and Technology (SIST) was held in A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology FEB RAS, Vladivostok.

On August 6, in Hunchun (Jilin Province, People's Republic of China), a working meeting was held on the project to create a joint Chinese-Russian Laboratory for Aquaculture of Northeast Asia. Hunchun City (“the city of sea delicacies”), located in the zone of border crossing of China, Russia and the North Korea, is a major transport hub, through it container transportation is implemented, and there is also an important base for processing, collecting, distributing and transporting seafood in the Northeast Asia.

On August 1, a delegation of the Consulate General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Vladivostok visited A.V. Zhirmunsky National Scientific Center of Marine Biology, Far Eastern Branch, Russian Academy of Sciences (NSCMB FEB RAS). The official reception was attended by the Consul General of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Vladivostok, Mr. Nguen Dang Hien, the Consul for Cultural Affairs, Mr.Vu Ngoc Tien and the assistant of the Consul General and interpreter Elena V. Suchkova. The Center was represented by the Director of the NSCMB FEB RAS Igor Yuryevich Dolmatov, Corr. Member of RAS, Deputy Director for International Cooperation Ph.D. Konstantin Anatol’evich Lutaenko, Deputy Directors for Science of the NSCMB FEB RAS: Ph.D. Tatyana Yu. Orlova, Ph.D. Vladimir V. Mordukhovich, and Ph.D. Andrey V. Boroda. The reception was also attended by Ph.D. Tatyana N. Dautova, the Scientific Head of the Laboratory for Deep Sea Research.
